The label has been designed by their son Pierre-Louis, during a Sunday family lunch, as they were talking all together about this new extra-brut "Esprit de Craie" ( that means " Chalk Spirit" ).  At first, the nose brings out aromas of citrus, green apple and linden blossom.

The soil of our terroirs of the Côte des Blancs is made up of a thin layer of soil sometimes covering 10 meters of chalk from belemnite fossils (small shells).
The roots of our Chardonnay vines must draw very deep water resources and mineral elements essential to their survival.
This poverty of our soils produces wines with a magnificent mineral structure.
This Rosé version of our Chalk Spirit reveals a nose that combines red fruits and unripe citrus fruits ...
On the palate, the finesse of its minerality will make it the ideal companion for your summer aperitifs, for example on a small toast of salmon ...

(RP=92) Pretty scents of tangerine, red berries, crisp green apples, and warm biscuits introduce the NV Extra Brut Rose Esprit de Craie, a medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural wine with a pretty core of fruit, a delicate mousse, and a vibrant, sapid finish. Disgorged in June 2017, it's a supremely classy rose from Varnier-Fanniere.

(AG=90) Varnier's NV Extra Brut Rose Esprit de Craie is bright, tense, and humming with vibrancy. Cranberry white flowers, chalk, mint, white pepper, and orange peel all contribute to the wine's lifted, vibrant personality. There is so much to like in this nervous, ethereal Champagne. Disgorged: February 2017. Dosage is 6 grams per liter.

(WS=89) This accessible version is fresh and balanced. Lively, with subtle notes of nectarine, sliced almond, pink grapefruit pith, and anise. Disgorged July 2017. Drink now.
